If you didn't see it, and think it sounds like crazy talk, it was real. NASA confirmed Saturday night that what many of you saw was indeed a meteor.
Calls starting coming into the FOX 10 newsroom last night about a fireball in the sky.
A camera at New Mexico State University caught the fireball on tape. In the video you see a small, bright blip in the frame streak upwards.
"The object seen over the skies yesterday was probably smaller than a baseball but what's interesting is that the object was seen as far away as El Paso and maybe even up to Las Vegas," said Dr. Steven Kates.
It's a good thing the object was small, in Russia last year a meteor was seen streaking across the sky. The shock wave from that meteor caused explosions and injured over a thousand people.
Authorities say if Saturday night's meteor was as big as the one in Russia, and it made it past the earth's atmosphere, we would be in trouble.
"So an object that's about 60 something feet across, would actually take out a small city if it actually made it to the ground and caused a direct hit," said Dr Kates.

The moon is expected to turn red as the moon travels through the earth's shadow just after Midnight.
