The Roswell UFO Festival kicks off in about two weeks and there are all sorts of new surprises in store for visitors. However, there’s one slight issue. The hub of the festival, the UFO Museum, is undergoing some serious renovations.
“The pressure is on, it's stressful, but we'll get it done we always do," said Museum Manager Mark Briscoe.
They’re still waiting for the new marquee.
Briscoe says the renovations were supposed to be done a month ago, but “We’re picky, so they've had to go back and re-do things that weren't done correctly just out of miscommunication," said Briscoe.
And there are other projects in the works, like transforming land downtown into a UFO park. The museum also plans to add touch screens to the exhibits, but that won't happen until next year.
There are two movie props coming, too. You might recognize one of them, if you’ve ever seen ‘Aliens.’ The other one, they won’t reveal until the festival.
“This is from one of the first sci-fi movies ever made," said Briscoe.
All the construction has done little to dissuade the crowds.
“We’re still averaging 1,000 people a day while we're doing this," said Briscoe.
Briscoe says despite the delays, the front of the museum will be done in time for the festival no matter what.
The UFO Festival is July 4, 5, and 6th.
The museum says the park won’t be completed until the fall.
