Mass UFO Sighting Over Brazil Sparks Panic

UFO Over Brazil Sparks Social Media Panic and Conspiracies

The mysterious lights were seen by thousands of people, there's video evidence, and people are saying posts disappeared from social media. What happened?

Brazilians in the municipality of Magé, just north of Rio de Janeiro, reported seeing mysterious illuminated objects in the sky Wednesday. Several videos of the objects exploded on Reddit and Twitter, sparking incredible speculation about a crashed UFO that has been picked up widely in the Brazilian press.
Magé began to trend on Twitter Wednesday morning when several people began sharing videos of glowing lights in the sky. The videos show blue, red and yellow orbs moving around the sky, and one video shows the lights arranged in a triangular formation.

While the videos themselves are curious, though hardly evidence of anything otherworldly, UFO enthusiasts began to fall down the conspiratorial rabbit hole rather quickly when posts about the event began disappearing on Twitter. As the event began to gather digital steam, the #MageUFO hashtag began to swell with posts, then, suddenly, vanished. Meanwhile, on the r/UFOs Reddit page, posts concerning the Brazilian UFOs also began to disappear. Crying foul, users began to accuse both Twitter and the moderators of the r/UFOs subreddit of censorship. Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Threads and comments about the UFOs were deleted from the r/UFOs subreddit; in a post, a moderator said that “I see a lot of stupidity in this thread, so let me just make it absolutely clear: mods here do not censor. If a post is stupid or offensive it will be removed. If it is a hoax, we'll remove it.” That moderator has been pilloried in the comments, with dozens of redditors suggesting that perhaps the subreddit for UFOs is where they should be allowed to talk about a UFO event that had thousands of eyewitnesses and dozens of videos posted. People wanting to discuss the event have moved on to r/aliens in the meantime.
To make matters worse, users began posting a Google Maps link showing a satellite image of part of Magé, suggesting a vast conspiracy and Google coverup. It looks like this, which is unfortunate for Google:

A white image glitch in the shape of, well, a flying saucer, seems to appear in a wooded area north of Rio de Janeiro. Google Maps satellite images are not updated instantly, of course, so this is an old image. A Google spokesperson explained to Motherboard what is going on here:
“In this case, what people are seeing in the imagery is a reflection that is temporarily overloading the satellite's sensor,” the spokesperson said. “Essentially, the sun reflected off the surface of that building at just the right angle to briefly blind the satellite. This is a pretty common phenomenon known as saturation or blooming.”
While the Brazilian press reports that no one reported these objects to local authorities, allegations of loud explosions and gunshots, the Brazilian military cordoning off the area, and army personnel arresting anyone trying to get close to the supposed crash site have taken over Twitter and the r/Aliens subreddit.

Typical internet lunacy aside, Brazil has been a long time hotspot for some pretty interesting UFO incidents. In 1957, journalist Ibrahim Sued received an envelope containing small bits of metal from an anonymous source claiming that they were debris from Ubatuba, a beach resort town, where an alleged UFO had crashed. Though not otherworldly in origin, the fragments were a highly pure magnesium. It is unclear where the metal came from and still remains a mystery. The infamous Colares UFO flap of 1977 made headlines when locals on the island of Colares began reporting strange objects in the sky and bizarre injuries to their bodies. According to researcher and computer scientists Jacques Vallee, several individuals were allegedly killed by the objects witnessed on the island. Reports of radiation and thermal burns, as well as strange scars, fill the Brazilian government’s file on the incident. After a formal investigation, the government concluded that it found no evidence of unusual phenomena.
One of the most bizarre cases occurred in 1996 when several people claimed to witness a strange alien creature roaming the streets of Varginha City. Looking like “the devil,” the large headed brown skinned 5 foot tall being was first spotted by three women on a January afternoon. Several other sightings were reported, and even the Wall Street Journal picked up the story. Silly as it may sound, it still exists as one of Brazil’s most famous cases.

Mass UFO Sighting Was Investigated By Ministry of Defence - North Wales

Ministry of Defence officials DID investigate mass UFO sightings in West Wales village

The Broad Haven Triangle sightings made national headlines nearly 40 years ago

A school pupil's drawing of a UFO in February 1977
New details have emerged shedding light on a spate of mysterious UFO and alien sightings which gripped a West Wales community almost 40 years ago.
Dubbed the 1977 Broad Haven Triangle mystery, conspiracy theories went into overdrive when reports emerged that 14 pupils from Broad Haven primary school had seen a UFO landing in Pembrokeshire.
The head teacher at the time backed up their claims, saying they had all drawn similar pictures of the craft.
Many others reported being petrified by a strange silver alien.
Now a new novel claims to have revealed details of a declassified MoD document which suggests top-ranking officials carried out a covert inquiry into the mysterious activities.

Archive evidence

The Watchers by Neil Spring is said to be based on “true events” and promises to reveal the truth about what really happened at Broad Haven.
According to the Express, Mr Spring researched the case through documents sent to the National Archives 30 years after the bizarre happenings and after a new witness came forward.
“I visited Broad Haven a sceptic, and came away convinced that some of the locals knew far more about the mysterious occurrences of 1977 than they are willing to reveal,” he said.

Faceless humanoid

According to documents held at the National Archive in Kew, the story began one night in April 1977 at 2.30am when Rosa Granville, who ran the Haven Fort Hotel in Little Haven, was awoken by strange noise and lights.
Looking out of her window, she described seeing an object which looked like an “upside-down saucer” in the field next to the hotel and two “faceless humanoid” creatures with pointed heads.
The incident, she said in a subsequent letter she wrote to her MP Nicholas Edwards, left her “agitated and disturbed and not the least bit desirous of another encounter”.

Inundated with sightings

On receiving Mrs Granville’s letter back in 1977, Mr Edwards contacted the Ministry of Defence and Flight Lieutenant Cowan, an officer from RAF Brawdy, then visited the hotel.
The MP said at the time: “I am being inundated at the present time with representations about UFOs said to have been seen in Pembrokeshire.”
Other incidents reported in the Broad Haven area at the time included a class of schoolchildren who claimed to have seen a spacecraft near their playground.
Then a family said they saw several UFOs in the space of a week, as well as several sightings of silver-suited creatures.
MoD officials expressed no interest, saying there was no threat to national security.

Discreet inquiry

However, among the documents was a letter from the head of the MoD’s S4 wing to the Provost Security Service, the RAF’s internal police force.
The S4 chief wrote: ”I have not even told the Minister I am consulting you” and called for a “discreet enquiry” after expressing bewilderment at the number of apparently “level-headed” witnesses to the strange activity.
Mr Spring said: “(The new witnesses’) testimony rocked the very foundations of the British Government.”

Bombshell document

Nick Pope, who worked as UFO investigator for the MOD, said: “This bombshell document shows how the MoD’s UFO project asked the RAF Police to conduct a secret investigation into these mysterious events, while Parliament, the media and the public were being told the subject was of no defence significance.
“Defence ministers were cut out of the loop.”
The disclosures have prompted Tory peer Lord Black of Brentwood to call for a full explanation from the MoD of what it uncovered.

More answers needed

Lord Black said: “A number of recently released MoD files leave little doubt that a small number of sightings of aerial phenomena - particularly by military personnel, pilots and air traffic controllers - remain unexplained and unidentified.
“There needs to be further examination of these issues in the hope of learning something new.”

The Aztec UFO Incident - An Exceptionally Well Researched Book

"The Aztec UFO Incident" is a

Well-researched, Page-Turner

BOOK REVIEW: The Aztec UFO incident by Scott Ramsey, Suzanne Ramsey, and Frank Thayer, PhD (The Career Press) 2016

It was around 1982 when I came across a copy of Charles Berlitz and William L. Moore’s 1980 book The Roswell Incident, with its garish, red dust jacket, in a public library in Little Rock, Arkansas.

By that time I was already consuming vast pages of Berlitz material, including his popular books about The Bermuda Triangle, The Philadelphia Experiment and the lost continent of Atlantis. It was much later when I learned that both Berlitz and Moore were likely covert government agents who were possibly spreading disinformation.

Nevertheless, I was hooked on the information in that book and other books to come about the 1947 Roswell UFO crash and the mystery (and government cover-up) surrounding it.

On the periphery of the Roswell story involved another UFO crash in another part of New Mexico, this one near the small town of Aztec, in the northern part of the state, near the Colorado line. It was here, on March 25, 1948 - some eight months after a saucer crashed near Roswell - that a similar “extraterrestrial spacecraft” crash-landed on a mesa, above Hart Canyon, and was seen by dozens of civilians who happened to be in the area, until the military swooped in, secured the area and trucked the craft away.

A pretty extraordinary story, right? You bet! I’d heard rumors about it but nothing substantial. And since 1980, the word “Roswell” has dominated, sucking all the air out of the room. But with this Aztec story, it was usually dismissed as a hoax, even though it was back in 1950 when journalist Frank Scully wrote Behind the Flying Saucers, the book that brought the Aztec mystery to the masses, only to be smeared by various intelligence agents and jealous journos of the day (against the backdrop of the Cold War and witch hunts against anti-American “subversives”), leaving a cloud hanging over the story for decades. The authors, here, get into that matter as well, explaining it clearly.

My views on Aztec, however, have definitely changed. In fact, I would say the UFO crash near Aztec, N.M., as described in The Aztec UFO Incident by husband-and-wife research team Scott and Suzanne Ramsey, along with journalist Dr. Frank Thayer, has utterly convinced me that a 100-foot diameter flying saucer – complete with dead aliens onboard – did go down that spring morning 68 years ago.

And while skeptics often point to books like The Roswell Incident as sloppy and quick cash-ins meant to both titillate and (possibly) deceive the public, The Aztec UFO Incidentinvolved literally three decades of research; lengthy interviews with witnesses and their families and friends, examinations of thousands of government documents, numerous visits to the actual crash site, samples of soil taken and studied, and an indefatigable desire to present the truth about what happened at Aztec all those years ago.

And there is plenty of page-turning intrigue and “wow” moments in these pages, along with photos, maps and photocopied documents related to the Aztec mystery. The Ramseys and Thayer have done their homework here – and then some!

One eyewitness, a Colorado preacher named Solon Brown, told his son – who told the authors – about coming upon the crash site that morning and seeing the large, disc-shaped craft and “little bodies (that) had passed on” and appeared to have been burned. The experience shook Brown to the core and he would share this – tears in his eyes - with others at his church, people who knew this respected pillar of the community would never make up an outrageous story.

Another eyewitness, Fred Reed, told of being in the OSS (Office of Strategic Services) and being involved in the “clean up” of the crash site, “re-landscaping,” which involved planting new trees where existing ones had been damaged in the crash.

There are more stories like that, gathered by these three authors who exhaustively – and conclusively – prove that an unidentified flying object, likely disabled, came out of the sky, struck a mesa and continued flying northward until it landed at another mesa near Aztec. Oil field workers, police, ministers and other saw the craft – and a dozen or so dead alien bodies.

The Aztec UFO Incident is a gripping story, in a way that is even more bizarre than the Roswell crash in that so many more eyewitnesses were present. But with the US Government stung by the aftermath of Roswell – the initial report and the subsequent cover-up – made them wiser and more secretive about future incidents such as Aztec. But this book shines a spotlight on this world-shaking event, and we have these authors to thank.

Hopefully, The Aztec UFO Incident will open the eyes of the public – a public that has been lied to, by its own government, for far too long when it comes to the UFO reality.

Multiple Witness Photograph UFO Over Southern Turkey

Residents Claim They Spotted UFO in Turkey’s Southern Town of Bodrum

A group of residents in Turkey's southern resort town of Bodrum located in the Muğla province claimed that they have seen a UFO on Thursday night when they woke up for sahour, the dawn meal people have during the Muslim month of Ramadan.

The residents in Çiftlik neighborhood said that they saw a moving shiny light object in the sky, which was observed for about 20 minutes.

A witness Necla Karaca points to where the UFO was seen
The object was photographed by 39-year-old Necla Karaca, who said the object did not look like a plane and it was moving 'weirdly'.

"We were up on the roof top patio for sahour. I always look at the sky and gaze at the stars. However, this time I saw a weird shiny object where I always look. I was shocked when I saw that it was moving and changing colors. Our neighbors also witnessed it. We suspected that it could be an UFO," Karaca said

Aliens Visited Michigan 50 Years Ago, Mass UFO Sighting With A Dozen Police Witnesses

Mass UFO Sighting With Dozens Of Unimpeachable Witnesses

Fifty years ago today, reports of Unidentified Flying Objects swarmed over Michigan. Headlines screamed from the pages of newspapers. Reporters headed to a swamp near Dexter and to a girls’ dorm at Hillsdale College.

The witnesses were not few and far-between. The people who said they saw these things included law enforcement officers and college officials. The U.S. Air Force sent in an expert from its Project Blue Book program, which investigated UFO reports from 1952 to 1969. After a short time visiting and talking to witnesses, J. Allen Hynek declared that what everyone had seen was not some alien invasion, but swamp gas. In articles from back then, swamp gas was described as methane emissions from decaying vegetation, which can ignite spontaneously.

Some people had a hard time swallowing that theory. One of them is Harry Willnus of South Lyon, a retired high school teacher and UFO enthusiast. Willnus, who was not a witness but has researched the Swamp Gas Case, sat with me last week to revisit those events of 50 years ago.

One more thing. If you think people didn’t take this seriously back then, know this: A congressman from Michigan called for congressional hearings on the Michigan UFO sightings.

Mr. Willnus, can you set the scene for me? Fifty years ago today, what did people report in a swamp near Dexter?

People reported lights. There were a number of police officers there, including at least 12 officers from Washtenaw County. Several from Dexter, the city of Dexter. A host of townies, and this thing went on for about four hours, off and on.

What were they seeing?

They were seeing lights, they were seeing some kind of a craft. There were more than one craft in the area, which were reported over a number of days. Sometimes they were seen flying in formation, a group of three or four. Other times, we had cases where a UFO was hovering over a deputy’s squad car.

Is that right?

Yes.

So this all started March 20, 1966.

It was the beginning. … Before that there were many, many sightings in this area, other states as well, and it went on after this. But the two cases known as the Swamp Gas Case are the Dexter case of March 20, 1966, and the following night, Hillsdale College, behind a girls’ dorm, March 21. … There were at least 60, 70, maybe 80 coeds in a dorm and they observed these lights for some time. ... On one occasion, the lights came up very, very close to the windows of the dorm, scared the girls. And then the police would be called, object would leave, police would leave, eventually the object would come back.

Back to the swamp in Dexter. … This wasn’t just a man and his son out in the countryside after drinking a bunch of moonshine or something and seeing visions. Real, credible people, including sheriff’s deputies, reported seeing the same thing.

Exactly. Frank Mannor was a no-nonsense guy.

He’s the guy who first reported the swamp incident?

Yes.

Did he describe what it looked like? Have you seen reports of what this craft looked like?

It was about the size of a small car. He said it was football-shaped. It had lights on each end. The lights sometimes would vary in intensity and colors. There was somewhat of a haze underneath it, which is commonly reported around UFO sightings, some kind of a haze. It may have to do with their propulsion systems.

Tell me how this was portrayed in newspapers and television around Michigan at the time.

Fascination. There was a degree of fear, though, with some people. … I was teaching school and they called an impromptu staff meeting, one of the teachers immediately stood up and said, I’ve got a long drive home, get this thing over quick, I don’t want to be on the road if it’s even close to dark, with this UFO stuff going on.

OK, there’s all these reports, and the Air Force sends in an expert (Hynek).

Hynek had about a day and a half. He visited both places: Hillsdale and the Dexter swamp. Looked the situation over. He was constantly being hounded by the press. And he interviewed witnesses, basically. He was riding back in the squad car with Sheriff Doug Harvey, Washtenaw County Sheriff. ... He said he just couldn’t put it together, what people had seen. But after they got back to the sheriff’s office, this is when I think the big event happened. The dispatcher stepped into the office and said, “Dr. Hynek, you’ve got a call from Washington.” Hynek stepped out, he took the call, he came back in, he looked a little gray, shook, and he was mumbling, “Swamp gas.” I don’t think Hynek knew what swamp gas actually was until he got this phone call. …

When did you get interested in UFOs and these kinds of studies?

I was a young lad, maybe 10 years old or so, and I saw a couple articles in the local paper, the Detroit Times, in those days, about UFOs. That’s what got me interested. I began to read and eventually did some investigating.

You’ve been a schoolteacher, you were a history teacher, you’re a sane human being. What do you say to those folks out there who would question all this as nonsense?

I would say, if you do your homework, go into this with an open mind ... there’s a tremendous amount of information and proof and evidence there that Planet Earth is being visited on a very regular basis. ... Have you ever seen one?

I’m trying to think. I love looking at the night sky. I’m a big fan of stargazing. I’ve seen plenty of satellites and things going around … I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything that I would classify as something from another world. How many people do you think have?

The estimate is as high as 14% of U.S. citizens have seen something that they cannot identify. Maybe most of those, they are something natural. But I say give me the top one-half percent. The military people, police officers, responsible citizens who’ve had sightings, and close-in sightings, and then listen to some of these. You’re going to be scratching your head.

Westfall Mass UFO Sighting Incident, 50 Years Later

The Westall ‘Mass UFO’ incident still remains a mystery 50 years after it occurred
CHILDREN as young as seven were confronted by men in sharp black suits and warned against talking, as emergency services and military swarmed the area.

It’s the mystery that has left an Australian suburb divided with witnesses wanting answers.

This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the Westall Incident and those involved are no closer to finding out what occurred on that fateful autumn morning.
It was 11.00am on April 6, 1966, when Australia’s largest mass UFO sighting took place.
Students and teachers from Westall High School and Westall State School and members of the public claim to have watched as three metallic objects with no obvious markings manoeuvred silently through the sky.
The objects landed in a paddock adjacent to the schools before quickly flying away, leaving large circles of flattened grass with well-defined, discoloured edges behind.
In the hours following the incident, emergency services, the military and the media were in attendance trying to make sense of the baffling encounter.
Several witnesses claim sharply-dressed men in dark suits warned them from speaking about the incident.
The warnings failed to have an effect with a number of witnesses sharing their accounts.
The Dandenong Journal ran with coverage of the incident on its front page for consecutive issues and Nine News also reported the story on its 6.00pm bulletin.
However, the film canister containing the footage from the incident has since been found empty in the station archives.
Despite the initial coverage and a number of possible explanations, the incident still remains shrouded in mystery.

WITNESS ACCOUNTS
Researcher Shane Ryan has spent the last decade of his life investigating the incident and after speaking with more than 100 primary witnesses, he believes something strange occurred.
“It was so unusual ... it occurred in broad daylight and had been seen by so many people landing on the ground, before taking off again,” he told news.com.au
“The event was obviously sizeable enough to muster a big response. Whatever it was that happened led to government agencies examining the site and taking soil samples.”
Mr Ryan said he believes there has been a concerted effort to keep the incident under wraps.
“[The media] kept meeting an official wall of silence, so it just stopped being a story and only remained as a memory for those involved,” he said.
Joy Clarke was 12 and a half at the time and vividly remembers the events that occurred that day.
“I was in class when students rushed in and told us the story. We rushed down to the oval and I saw three flying saucers on that day,” she told news.com.au
“My personal belief is they weren’t of this world. They were definitely from somewhere else because I have never seen anything like it all.
“The army had arrived and the police were there. We were told we were hysterical and it didn’t happen while men in black interviewed some of the other kids.”

Terry Peck was playing cricket on the school oval when she saw the saucer and decided to chase it to Grange Reserve.
“I was about six metres away from it. It was bigger than a car and circular. I think I saw some lights underneath it,” she told the Herald Sun.
“Two girls were there before me. One was terribly upset and they were pale, really white, ghostly white. They just said they had passed out, fainted. One was taken to hospital in an ambulance.”
The now-56-year-old said no time was wasted in covering up the incident.
“We all got called to an assembly ... and they told us all to keep quiet,” she said.
“I’d absolutely just like someone to come forward from the services just to say ‘yes, it did happen, and it landed and there was a cover-up’.’’
Jacqueline Argent said she was one of the first three kids over the fence to look for the UFO landing site.
“Originally I thought it must have been an experimental type aircraft, but nothing has emerged like that after all these years,’’ she said.
The now-58-year-old told how she was called into the headmaster’s office and interrogated by three men immediately following the incident.
“They had good-quality suits and were well-spoken,” she said.
“They said, ‘I suppose you saw little green men’.
“I spoke to my parents about it at the time and they were pretty outraged.’’
Stephen Cairns also claims to have witnessed the strange phenomenon.
The then-seven-year-old was living in Dandenong and walking to school with his mother after a dentist appointment when it occurred.
“In the distance, I saw a silver disc-like object. However, at first, it was so far away I was not quite sure what it was,” he told news.com.au
“The silver disc-like object moved with amazing speed until it was directly above us ... it hovered for a few moments then, as quickly as it came, it flew away.”
Suesan Crosthwaite, Pauline Kelly, Terry Peck and Kevin Hurley can remember vividly the 6th of April 1966 when mysterious flying objects flew overhead and landed a short distance away.

LOGICAL EXPLANATION
Although federal and state government agencies refused to comment about the incident at the time, government documents unearthed in 2014 offer an explanation for the sighting.
The documents revealed a secret radiation-testing project known as the HIBAL program — a joint US-Australian initiative developed to monitor atmospheric radiation levels using large silver balloons equipped with sensors between 1960 and 1969.
Each balloon was equipped with a 180 kg payload and was followed by a light aircraft tasked with tracking it and triggering its 12m parachute via radio signal.
Researcher Keith Basterfield said examinations of the documents held by the National Archives and former Department of Supply indicate the mysterious flying object may have been a test balloon that was blown off course after being launched from Mildura.
“My hypothesis is that the incident involved not a UFO, but a high altitude balloon, its parachute and large payload,” he told News Corp.
“The Westall object was described as being a white/silver colour which could describe the colour of an HIBAL balloon or parachute.”
After performing a close review of all available documentation, including that searched through Freedom of Information laws, Mr Basterfield believes HIBAL flight number 292 to be the real culprit.

However, he admits he can’t be certain because the paperwork for the launches scheduled for the day before the Westall incident appears to have been lost or destroyed.
“What is strikingly missing is a memo reporting on the actual four launches for April 1966, one of which was scheduled for April 5, 1966, the day before Westall,” he said.
“So we have no (official) knowledge of where flight 292 went.”
When asked about the balloon theory, fellow researcher Mr Ryan said he had his doubts.
“Nothing was collected or picked up from the site as far as witnesses are aware,” he told news.com.au.
“The flying saucer came down and took off again, flying at high speed leaving behind large circles with a well-defined edge around perimeter.
“When a balloon becomes deflated and the gondola goes down, nothing like that happens.”
Hazel Edwards was an English and maths teacher at Westall High on the day of the incident and believes it has been blown out of proportion.
The self-proclaimed skeptic suggests overly excited kids made up the story and were responsible for the media hype.
“I think there were a lot of kids that were hyped up,” she told news.com.au
“Look at the so-called evidence, most of it is just hearsay.”
Mr Ryan said while he is open to the idea of a down-to-earth explanation, none so far seems to fit the bill.
“What we’re hoping for is someone in an official capacity coming forward and talking about what happened.”
The landing site has since been turned into a memorial park to reflect the 1966 Westall UFO Incident.

Mass UFO Sighting Over China Sets Media Abuzz and Panics Citizens

A MORPHING UFO caused widespread panic as it appeared above several major cities. Thousands were shocked to see the glowing object light up the night sky and change its form various times. Some feared it was an anti-missile test or an anti-satelite missile. The morphing object appeared above western China in cities such as Xinjiang, Qinghai, and Gansu, according to local media. The UFO was captured on camera by a number of witnesses. The sightings caused a frenzy on China’s Weibo social media website.
